Observation and drawing are fundamental to all my work, whether from the human figure, the environment, or from architectural and other forms. I am also fascinated by the historical context of my subjects, and this often emerges through the final images. Working in graphite, charcoal, paint and printmaking; texture and mark-making always play a vital role.

Regular visits to Ireland, where I still have close family ties, have been very influential and led to drawings, paintings and prints exploring the remains of an older Ireland still visible in the disused buildings which are scattered though the landscape and towns.
